About This Guide

Pollinators
Pollinators are essential to the future of mezcal, and so are you to ours. Mezcal Curiously's "Pollinators" are people who make meaningful contributions to our community through Patreon support, forum participation, or by bringing genuine curiosity and consideration to our spaces.
Gifts of Nectar
We believe meaningful community participation deserves meaningful recognition. Gifts of Nectar are our monthly giveaway celebrating you for engaging with Mezcal Curiously - it's our way of saying thank you for being a Pollinator and helping us grow!
One Pollinator will be celebrated for every 200 entries.
Monthly Entry Methods
Patreon Membership (free tier available)
One tasting log posted in our forum (dated in the giveaway month)
One SEATS recap shared in our forum (dated in the giveaway month)
Giving a Quiote to forum posts or comments that you appreciate (yes, you get one for giving!)
Receiving a Quiote from other Pollinators for your best forum contributions (no limit)
About Quiotes * (coming in 2025)
Pollinators start with one Quiote available to give, and 3-6 months of active forum participation grows your Quiote supply up to four. Quiote levels will decay after 3 months of forum inactivity. Staff can't win giveaways, but they have unlimited Quiotes to give for exceptional contributions.
* ’Quiote’ is an agave’s flowering stalk sprouted towards their life’s end. Agaves are ‘monocarpic’, meaning that they only flower once in their life and will die shortly after doing so. Quiotes are a signal of agave ripeness for many traditional mezcal producers, and may be removed prematurely with a process known as ‘capón’. Capóning an agave can concentrate the sugars from the leaves (pencas) into its core (piña), increasing the potential alcohol volume and flavor intensity from each plant before harvest.

Community Participation
General Standards
These standards apply to all community interactions such as event spaces, forum conversations, and any other MC-related connections and spaces.
1. Communities are built on empathy and shared experience. Kindness is better for humanity than intelligence. Act like it.
2. Ask in-depth and nuanced questions if you want those kinds of answers.
3. No intentionally harmful misinformation such as mezcal's safety, health effects, or quality standards. If you are intending to inform, share your sources.
4. If you disagree with a source, further the discussion by providing your own.
Forum Rules
These rules apply specifically to our forum that is moderated by Mezcal Curiously’s staff.
1. One account per person. We want to build genuine relationships, not collect followers or avoid accountability. You are responsible for your decisions and actions in this community.
2. Use the Search before you post a question. Check pinned posts and available resources first. Repetitive questions will be forwarded or linked to previous discussions to help build on existing insights.
3. Keep posts to their respective spaces. That includes buying advice, self or brand promotion, and unrelated discussions.
4. Report your concerns instead of engaging with rule-breaking or otherwise problematic content, to keep our community healthy.
5. Don't share others' personal information without permission. This includes real names, locations, contact details, or workplace info.
6. No NSFW posts.
7. No posts advertising (except by verified brands in the Brand Showcase), selling, or trading alcohol including arranging private sales through DMs. If you buy, trade, or share privately, you do so at your own risk!
